AltruTek held an important event Saturday, November 18th at TechFarms
in Panama City Beach, Florida. This event not only celebrated a
nation’s culture, but also raised money to help with demining efforts
At the event, attended by more than 300 people, participants learned
about Ukrainian food, traditions, music and more. Children
participated in Ukrainian games, made arts and crafts, and learned the
Ukrainian alphabet. There were vendors on site selling Ukrainian food,
drinks, clothing and more. Proceeds from the event exceeded $3,000 to
help send a remarkable drone to Ukraine. The GEON E-61 Drone, made in
Panama City Beach, can safely and accurately map an entire acre for
mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in just 2 hours. These types of
“demining maps” can take days or weeks to create without this unique
AltruTek uses donations to provide mine-seeking drones and support to
Ukraine, currently the most-mined nation in the world. The non-profit
has created an alliance with Ukrainian companies and government
representatives to complete these life-saving maps. These deadly
devices are now scattered over an area the size of Florida. Just one
square meter can contain as many as five explosives.
Farmers in parts of Ukraine face one of the largest minefields in the
world. Many are being forced to resort to untrained individuals to
locate and remove UXO as they attempt to recover thousands of acres
lost to mining and explosives. Explosives are excruciatingly slow to
remove by hand. Drones help to speed up the process and revitalize
their devastated businesses.
Helping Ukraine right now is especially important given the current war.
“We’re trying to help Ukrainians. And we’re trying to raise this money
and give the drones for free for Ukraine. Thank you so much for all
American people that are supporting Ukrainians right now,” said
Anastasiia Khudiaieva, Event Manager and Volunteer for AltruTek.
